Restoring Girvi Backups on Fresh Install vs Existing Setup
Complete troubleshooting guide for restoring .gbackup / ZIP archives from the login screen or settings with cryptographic integrity verification.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Restore Flow on Fresh Install (Pre-Login)
On a clean install, tap 'Restore from Backup' on the Login screen. Android Storage Access Framework (SAF) launches to select your `.gbackup` file.
Automatic Encryption Detection
Girvi inspects the file header. If it detects the 'PBK2' magic header, a dialog requests your backup encryption password before proceeding.
Inspect Non-Destructive Preview Card
Before any database change, Girvi displays a preview card showing shop name, account email, transaction count, and backup creation timestamp.
Re-Authenticate with Account Password
Enter your account password to verify ownership. This two-layer security ensures an unauthorized person with a backup file cannot access data without the master password.
Atomic Transaction Restore
Room DB performs a transactional wipe-and-reinsert (`withTransaction`). If successful, you are logged in automatically with all records restored.
In-App Restore from Settings (Logged In)
If already logged in, go to Profile > Backup & Restore > 'Import Backup'. Confirm the warning dialog to overwrite current records.
Expected Outcome
All pledge loans, payments, customer records, and item photos are safely restored with complete data integrity.
Important Points & Common Pitfalls
- Using an unsupported backup format or corrupted download; ensure file has `.gbackup` or `.zip` extension.
- Attempting to restore a Device-Key backup on a different physical device (only Password-Key backups are portable).
